With ModernAuthorize, your company's name, address and information are attached to invoices and receipts. Third-party processors will not let you alter the information on the documents. It will always appear as though it were directly from your processor, not you. This is because they are essentially letting you share their account. You do not have actual control over these display issues. With a ModernAuthorize merchant account, you design your own documents and can make them as professional as you please.
The inability to customize the appearance has several undesirable outcomes for your business. First, it is confusing to your customer. Often, customers receiving their bill will not understand who this charge is with since they signed up with you, not your processor. This creates unneccessary anxiety for your customer and support costs for you. Also, the phone number listed will be with the processor. This means that prior to your knowledge of the customers complaint, the customer will have to deal with the processing service. These organizations do have large support teams, but their interest is in preventing chargebacks. You, as their vendor, have higher interests in assuring that your customers are satisfied. Even a billing discrepancy can be an oppurtunity for a good customer experience and even upselling. If the customer is in a bad mood by the time they get to you because of your processor's contact with them, you lose this ability to be pre-emptive.
Second, your processor gets to compete with you for selling merchant accounts to your customers. As a ModernAuthorize customer, you will automatically be able to resell general e-commerce accounts to your customers. These accounts are slightly more expensive than the accounts we offer our webhosting customers, but are often a better deal than can be found in many places locally and represent a serious convenience to your e-commerce customers. Third-party gateways do not even offer this service and are directly competing for your customer with their name on the bill.
Many customers consider merchants with third-party gateways unprofessional. These customers associate the names of these processors with consumer only transactions. They may have experienced the brand names of these services in other less professional situations and you will be lumped with them. If you plan to do reselling or business to business transactions, this is a huge issue.
